dump no refuse

The Itsekiri Environmental Protection Initiative (IEPI) (Reg.7578666 )
an Organisation whose primary aims and objectives are to protect the environment of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality as far as the Niger Delta and beyond, through sustainable programs for protection, conservation and preservations wish to commend the Warri south LGA Chairman Hon. Weyinmi Isaac Agbateniro for the bold step to protect the Warri south LGA through his environmental protection programs he has initiated and embarked on since his assumption of office
We will not fail to mention the recent order on the correction of improper disposal of waste by the residents of Ekurede Itsekiri, especially on the directives to the landlords to provide a proper sewage waste management for their compounds to avoid disposal into our creeks and water body
Mr chairman it could be recalled that this was the call made by our organization on the 5th of June 2024 on the celebration of the world environmental day at Pessu community town hall, one of the highlights of the program is the sensitisation of the residents in our localities both land and riverine areas to stop the dumping of waste on our water bodies especially our river banks the program was later extended to Ubeji/ifie road as well as the main Jetty at Ode-itsekiri where banners were placed on strategic areas by the river banks
We wish to use this medium to call on the Delta state Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Ejiro Jamani, to extend his activities to the Pessu river by clearing off debris to enhance the free flow of boats between the Pessu market Jetty and the Warri main market, as it used to be in the 80s
We commend Hon. Femi Okorodiden, the supervisor for Environment Warri South, on his outstanding performance in the field
We encourage you to continue the good job by responding to our agitations for a better and sustainable living environment

repair road

As the world marks World Cleanup Day, the Itsekiri Environmental Protection Initiative (IEPI) draws urgent attention to the worsening condition of the road between Ugbuwangue and New Port. This bad stretch of road has become both an environmental danger and a serious threat to public safety.

On 15 September 2025, our community sadly lost Miss Agirly Obinini when a driver, trying to avoid the broken and water-filled section, drove against traffic and caused a fatal accident. This painful loss shows how neglect of the environment and infrastructure can cost lives.

World Cleanup Day reminds us that environmental care goes beyond litter collection. Bad roads harm the environment too: blocked drains create stagnant water that breeds disease; eroded soil and runoff pollute nearby rivers and wetlands; and heavy traffic jams release more smoke and carbon into the air, worsening climate change and poor air quality. Each rainy season carries oil and dirt into the creeks and mangroves that sustain our fish and wildlife.

In the spirit of this global cleanup effort, IEPI is organising a peaceful awareness campaign at the site, bringing together community members, traditional leaders, and environmental groups. Our goal is to urge both the Delta State Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria to undertake urgent road repairs, enhance drainage systems, and implement long-term maintenance measures to protect both people and the environment.

We appeal to the Ministry of Works, the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), and all other responsible bodies to act quickly. Fixing this road is more than a transport project—it is a key step in reducing pollution, safeguarding ecosystems, and honouring the spirit of World Cleanup Day.

IEPI remains committed to a safe, clean, and sustainable environment for everyone.
